Apple announces Lion – new version of Mac OS

Apple today announced the next version of Mac OS X 10.7 dubbed as Lion.Apple today announced their Mac OS update on “Back to Mac” conference in infinite loop.

Steve jobs said:

We started with OS X and we created a new version called iOS — it’s now used in the iPad as well. We’re inspired by some of those innovations. And we want to bring them back to the mac. Mac OS X meets the iPad

Features of Lion OS

1.MAC App store

Apple’s famous app store magic now arrives to MAC as mac app store.Just like app store for iphone and ipad you can browse apps specially made for your Mac.(See more)

2.Launchpad


Launchpad provides instant access to your apps.Launchpad is you control panel for all your apps installed in Mac.The launchpad icon is available on the Dock ,on click access to all the apps installed on the Mac

3.Full screen apps

All the apps will be scaled to full screen unlike the apps in iphone and ipad.

4.Mission control
Mission control is the command center of your entire Mac system.Its like the task manager which shows all the running apps and process in a simple screen shot.


Dates
The Lion OS is available from Summer of 2011 and no specific dates are announced.The app store concept will be available to Snow leopard customers after 90 days(January 2011)App submission starts from November onwards.

Also with these features Facetime for iphone(which launched with Iphone4) is now available for Mac with this Os update.Users can call to iphone and Mac devices from Facetime.
