How to : Install Wine 1.4 in Ubuntu 11.10/Ubuntu 12.04

Finally after 20 months of development effort , Wine team has released its new stable version “Wine 1.4”. It contains many new changes and bug fixes. Apart from this , it also started supporting many new applications like Microsoft Office 2010 .

What’s New :

There are many changes done in past two year . Let’s see one by one !!

  • More Image Codecs are Implemented , Including support for TGA and CMYK.
  • XML support is improved .
  • Post Script Output quality is improved , particularly  for bitmaps and paths .
  • Rotated text works better for all output device types .

How to install :

Currently Wine 1.4 is not available in PPA for Ubuntu 11.10,Lucid and Maverick users . But if you want to install in Ubuntu 11.10 , then go for Wine 1.4 Rc6 . For Ubuntu 12.04 users , wine 1.4 would be available in its repositories ( so there is no need of PPA in Ubuntu 12.04) .

To Install Wine 1.4 RC6 , Open the terminal and run the following commands :

sudo apt-get install wine1.3
